IELTS LISTENING GUIDE

How the test is taken??
In IELTS LISTENING TEST candidate will be listening to a tape and answer the questions.
This tape will be played for about 30 minutes which will be split up into four section and the questions will also be divided into four sections. As you go ahead with the sections and the questions the test will become harder (normally this happens but still you should be prepared for the tough one from the very first question and throughout the test). That means the first section is easier and the fourth is hardest one in the whole test.

What kind of questions are asked in IELTS LISTENING??
Candidate will be given a test question paper containing 40 questions. These 40 questions will be divided into four sections. And as the candidate goes ahead, harder the questions become.
·      The first section will be a conversation between two speakers and the answer of the questions will be normally a phone no., student Id, pin code of any area, car type, car model, year or likewise.
·      The second section will be a monologue where one person will be speaking.
·      The third section will be two way conversation ie. a representator speaking to a group of students, or may be three or four way conversation. And will be about education & training context.
·      The fourth section will be a monologue again. And will be about education & training context.

      Question type:
Multiple choice, matching, plan/map/diagram labelling, form completion, note completion, table completion, flow-chart completion, summary completion, sentence completion, short answer question.

Tips to score better in IELTS LISTENING??

     1)   Listen ACTIVELY to Movie, Radio or English serials for 2 hrs a day and take notes of the         phrases, words, idioms or proverbs you are coming across which you are not aware of, so         that you can go through the list later on as well. What?? It is not possible to have that much         time and you are not student then spend as much time you can spare for it because it is really     a listening booster exercise. Really!!
    2)   Get a little ease with different accents like British, Canadian, Australian and all other if                 possible.

    3)   Understand the question:
When you have a time to read the questions understand the question and underline the               keywords in question and in options of the answers too if it is multiple choice question. By           doing this you will be able to keep the question in your mind easily and while listening to the       tape you will be able to click the answer quickly (Even the tough one!).

    4)    Presume the answer:
There are some kinds of questions where you can presume your answer or the type of the           answer or one option best fitted to the question in case of multiple choice etc. Try it you will         get  a grip with practise with this skill which is very much necessary to adopt for IELTS                 LISTENING because you will not hear the tape again.
    5)   Use the answer review time to read next questions:
After finishing any section you will get time to check and rectify the answers, use that time to       review the next questions. And the answers can be rectified in last 10 minutes given to                 transfer the answers to the answer sheet.
    6)   Keep on practising:
Well this is very important advice which says that you should take the test every day (at least       one). So you can be very comfortable with the exam format and clear the common mistakes       you make each time. What is more after taking test check the wrong answer and try to work       out how did you go wrong with the answer. from next time
    7)    Check for the silly errors in answers:
After transferring the answers to the answer sheet check for spelling mistakes, check the             word limit for the answers and check for the grammar part of the answers.

After taking 3-4 test everytime go through this page you will grasp it more each time you read and so your skills in IELTS LISTENING will be improved.
